Bust Half Dollars 1794 - 1839

The first minting of half dollars with the bust design occurred in 1794, replacing the flowing hair design of earlier coins. The bust design, created by Robert Scot, featured the image of Miss Liberty on the obverse, symbolizing the aspirations of the young nation. The introduction of the bust half dollar marked a significant shift in the design and artistic expression of early American coinage. The coin became an integral part of the monetary system, circulating alongside other denominations.
